First I'd like to apologize if this is a bad post. The title is a question, mainly because I'm not sure about the terminology (biggest issue w/ learning programming so far for me)..

Let me explain what I'd like to do: I want to 'find' 3d models inside a game (runescape) and overlay the name/ID over it. Like this: https://imgur.com/FF6vfZP

I haven't had luck in figuring out how to do this or even where to start, other than "openGL interception". I also found a thread on villavu forums with a guy doing exactly what I'd like to learn but had no luck getting a response from him: https://villavu.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116686

I was hoping I could get a starting point, or some keywords that I can google/research to figure this out.

Thanks

Find what function draws the models. Could be glDrawElements for instance. You hook the function and log the mode and count. Then you filter our which modes and counts are for the model type you want. Player models of a certain type will always have the same type and count. Then in your hook you decide to draw name/id over the model only when it is the correct model. This is very similar to a cham style hack.

We have some discussion on it here:

Liduen has worked with it extensively maybe check his other threads

Thanks so much for the reply! Clearly I have a lot to learn, thanks for explaining how it works
